When Kamani auditorium was commissioned the
inaugural concert of was conducted by none other than the legendry M.S.
Subbulakshmi.
Kamani ushered in a phase of professional theatre going. The hall itself denotes excellence in acoustics, logistics, lights, curtains and wings. In itself, the Kamani set the tone for how halls were to be constructed thereafter and other followed suit: the Shriram Center for Arts and Culture catering to puppets and drama, the FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry) and much later the Siri Fort Auditorium. It is interesting to note that the team which created Kamani, was called upon some ten years later, by the then Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi to create the Siri Fort auditorium, the biggest in Delhi seating 2,000 plus.
Kamani Auditorium stands as a testimony & test of times. |
